The freezing rain did not discriminate. Not even a local rescue crew was immune to the slippery conditions on the morning of Friday, Dec. 20, 2013.

A Sterling fire truck flipped onto its side while responding to an emergency. It happened on West Lynn Blvd. and Ave. E. According to the fire department, the truck was responding to a call on Interstate 88 when it ran into trouble on the way. No firefighters were hurt. They say the cause is probably weather related, but an investigation is underway.

Conditions varied across the Quad City metro area, with some streets just wet and others treacherous. One trouble spot in Davenport Friday morning was the scene of an accident. A semi tractor-trailer lost traction and slid off the road and hit a tree on West Kimberly Road and Lillie Ave. Our photographer reported very slick conditions in that area.

Later in the day, TV6 viewers reported icy conditions in Clinton and in Muscatine, a semi rig went off Highway 61.

The Illinois State Police also reported dangerous road conditions, especially because of the unpredictability of where there is ice and where it's just wet.
