Welcome to Tipton...where the town's slogan is making dreams happen.  That goes without saying for Deborah Vandergaast who won the Dream Big, Grow Here grant.  She owns Tipton Adaptive Daycare but, there's just one problem.

"It's been in my home since June of 2005 and it's really outgrowing the space," said Deborah Vandergaast.  "It's time to move out. Its just too crowded here."

Her special needs daycare has been confined to the walls of her in-house daycare and as the demand for special needs services grow in town, so does interest in her services--something she learned when she thought she'd have to shut her doors.

"I literally had a parent with twins with special needs who broke down in tears and said, you can't,"said Vandergaast.

Instead, she's expanding and has already purchased a new building.  The challenge of remodeling this old moose lodge remains and that's where the $5,000 grant comes into play.

"The $5,000 grant we won this month, we are using to purchase the building materials.  Half the building is nearly complete. We're just finishing up putting doors and trims," said Vandergaast. "This $5,000 takes what was a 10 year goal and makes it a 5 year goal."

That goal means adding jobs to the local workforce as well.

"My expansion impacts the community, creates a lot of new jobs. 10-15 new jobs just starting out. Just getting the center open," said Vandergaast.

Vandergaast plans to move to the new building within six months. She says the grant makes dreaming big and growing business here in Tipton possible.

"This is really just beyond my dreams," said Vandergaast.
