Restaurant Managers Say They're Being Forced from SouthPark Mall

Updated:

Restaurant managers at SouthPark Mall's Food Court say they're being forced out.

Two restaurant managers tell us they've received letters telling them they have to vacate. Some have to leave by the end of January. Some, like American Great Steak, must be out by the end of this month. That's Tuesday.

American Great Steak Manager Debbie Martin says she doesn't know what she'll do next. While some tell us they are hoping to relocate inside the mall, Martin says that was not an option for her restaurant.

This comes as the mall's parent company is working to renovate the mall, and looking at options that include open-air store fronts and a pedestrian plaza. Macerich has been working with the Moline city leaders to make that happen. Aldermen approved tax increment financing in September, and tell us the company was waiting to hear back from the Department of Transportation about possible access to the mall from John Deere Road.

No timeline on that from the company. We have been unable to reach mall representatives.
