Concealed Carry Online Application Permit Available Sunday

Updated:

Illinois residents have been waiting and by this Sunday, they'll be able to begin the application process to obtain a concealed carry permit.

Illinois State Police held a press conference today in Chicago explaining how to apply on their website

They say it's simple and only takes about 10-minutes to complete online.

"And at the end of process if the eligibility determination is clear, then a card would be issued and mailed out to the individual when the license is issued," said Lt. Col. Matt David with the Illinois State Police.

The ISP says they have tested the online process and they're confident it will be able to handle the thousands of expected applicants. It's already estimated that over 400,000 applicants will be applying.

"We're committed to meeting the statutory requirements of the issuance," said Col. Marc Maton of the Illinois State Police. "And we believe that the system and the team we put in place has the capacity to do that and we're hoping we can do that much sooner than 90-days."

Once approved the concealed carry license costs $150 and is valid for five years. You also need to have a FOID card, completed required training and registered your finger prints.

The ISP says they are looking into alternative ways for people with limited access to Internet, so they can access the application more easily.
