It's A Stitch

Celebrating thirty years of excellence.  Whether by hand or machine, members of the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild design lovely fabric quilts.

A recent exhibit titled "A Place In Time"  was a tribute to the Gettysburg Address and the Civil War.

Catherine Litwinow says her reproduction fabric quilt has 920 pieces. It tells a story about the Civil War.

Rosalie Baker spent a year making a quilt. She calls it "American Blood Brothers." It depicts two soldiers walking across a bridge. One from the North, the other from the South. The entire Gettysburg Address is hand quilted on the fabric.

There are some quilts which tell the story of the Underground Railroad. That is the route escaped slaves took on their way to free states or further north into Canada.

The guild started thirty years ago. Now, there are about 280 members. The guild meets the first Tuesday of every month at the First Congregational Church in downtown Moline.

Story telling with needle, thread, and machine. One stitch at a time.
