Alliant Plans To Convert Clinton Coal Plant

Updated:

Alliant Energy just announced plans to convert a generating station in Clinton, Iowa from coal to natural gas. The utility company says it will make the change to the M.L. Kapp Generating Station in the spring of 2015.

According a news release, Alliant says the move will reduce emissions while managing costs for customers. With the switch from coal to gas, the company expects to reduce the facility's total nitrogen oxide, particulate, mercury and carbon dioxide emissions while nearly eliminating sulfur dioxide emissions.

M.L. Kapp will be the fourth generating facility in Alliant Energy's Iowa and Minnesota service territory to switch from coal to natural gas.
