Truck In Ditch, Aledo Man Found Dead Near Andover, IL

Officials in Henry County, Illinois are investigating a possible weather-related death.

On Friday, January 3, 2014, the Henry County Sheriff's Office received a call around 9:30 p.m. about a White Chevy Tahoe stuck in the ditch on route 81 near Andover, Illinois.

A passing motorist reported that the driver was not in the truck and was seen walking west in the direction of Andover.

Deputies went to the scene but were not able to find the driver. Due to weather conditions, they called in the Knox County snowmobile rescue team. Around 2 a.m., the body of 35-year-old Jeremy Young of Aledo, Ill. was found at the bottom of camp creek.

The cause of the death is still being investigated, but the Henry County Coroner says hypothermia was a factor.

Meteorologist Kevin Phelps says it was 22 degrees with a wind chill around 8 degrees that night. He reminds people to stay in their vehicle even if it is not running.  It will still be warmer than the conditions outside. The National Weather Service provides a chart that shows if it's -20 degrees outside on a sunny day, the inside of a car that is shut off will still remain around 20 degrees.
