UPDATE: 7:24 a.m. Iowa bound traffic is now moving across the bridge.

ORIGINAL: Multiple accidents on the Centennial Bridge have caused traffic to back up on Tuesday morning, January 7, 2014.

The Davenport Police tell KWQC a large patch of ice on the Iowa-bound side of the bridge was apparently the cause.

Police say the accidents involved several vehicles.

At this point, traffic on the Illinois side of the bridge isn't being allowed onto the bridge while officials sort out the accident.

In a statement to the media, officials urge caution.

"The Davenport Police Department and the Rock Island Police Department are currently handling multiple traffic crashes on the Centennial Bridge due to icy road conditions. The road conditions and crashes have forced us to restrict traffic to one lane for Iowa bound traffic. Illinois bound is unrestricted at this time. We are urging motorists to use an alternate route during their morning commute or use extreme caution while the situation is remedied."
