Titleist. Pinnacle. Top Flight and Dunlop. Brand names of golf balls.

Jack Vrstal of East Moline gives the golf ball a  "hole" new meaning. In his basement workshop, Jack drills and works his tools  through the coating  of used golf balls. Searching for that perfect rubber inside.

Vrstal is an artist. He makes wine corks out of the golf balls.

Vrstal says every one he  opens is different.

Jack uses his carving tools to design eye, hair, eyebrows, and moustaches.

It takes about an hour to make a wine cork. Each face on the cork has character, he says.

Only one has a name. Fittingly, it's Corky. Jack enjoys taking him on trips. Corky has been to the Adriatic Sea, Venice, and several other places.

The corks fit nicely, sitting on the top of a bottle of Chardonnay or Merlot. Golf balls converted to wine corks. In Jack's world, it's par for the course.
