A Clinton man was arrested for felony child endangerment causing death after his daughter's drug-related death.

On September 23, 2013, DHS notified the Bettendorf Police of a 13-month-old baby girl who was exposed to methadone.

The baby was taken to Mercy Medical Center due to an illness after the baby and parents traveled from Bettendorf to Clinton. The baby was then transported to Iowa City where she died on September 24. Bettendorf Police confirmed that the baby ingested methadone and was also exposed to meth.

Spencer James Smith, 24 of Clinton, was arrested on January 13 and is being held at the Scott County Jail with $1 million bond.

An active warrant has been issued for Precious Bailey, the 25 year old mother of the baby. Anyone with information concerning Bailey's whereabouts is asked to call the Bettendorf Police Department at 563-344-4023.

Both the Bettendorf and Clinton Police Departments have been working together throughout the investigation.
