Special Olympics Qualifying At Ski Snowstar

Posted: Updated:

Local athletes are ready to compete on the slopes as Special Olympics Illinois hosted the annual Alpine Skiing Competition at Ski Snowstar in Andalusia.
Eleven athletes high school age and older participated in events like the giant slalom.

"They've been practicing for awhile, luckily we've had some good snow the last few weeks," said Cathy Betar of Special Olympics Illinois. "We have a bunch of new beginners this year, this is their first year skiing. It's challenging. Skiing is not an easy sport to accomplish and these guys have done a wonderful job of practicing and preparing."

The events gave the athletes a chance to brush up on their skiing skills to try to advance to state.
