Development plans in downtown Moline have some now concerned about the future of an historic building.

Moline historic preservationists say they were surprised to find out a few days ago, the old John Deere Collectors' Center building could be demolished.

The John Deere Foundation announced plans last week to raze the old 1885 waterworks and sell the property to the city for redevelopment.

Preservationists say they should have a say in what happens to the building.

The city opened up the topic for discussion last night.

Aldermen agreed to move the vote on buying the property to February 11, 2014.

Whatever the building's future holds, the John Deere Foundation says it will preserve any historically-significant components of it.

The former Collectors' Center has not been actively used since 2008.
