White House Hosts Augustana President

Posted: Updated:

The White House played host to more than a hundred college presidents on Thursday, January 16, 2014 to honor opportunity.

Millions of dollars in private donations have been realized to help low-income students.

President Obama and the first lady spoke about the challenges low-income students are facing.

"We know that when it comes to college advising, and preparing for tests like the ACT and the SAT, low-income kids are not on a level playing field. We call these standardized tests they're not standardized."

Augustana College in Rock Island says college president, Steven Bahls was at the event.

He was invited to discuss ideas with President Obama's staff.

This fall, Augustana will start a new program that partners high-achieving students in need, with donors who can help them.

It's called the "Close the Gap Award" for incoming students.
