Emergency crews in Andalusia, Ill. spent hours Sunday night cleaning up a diesel fuel spill in the Andalusia Bank parking lot on Eighth Street.

Crews say it looked like a semi-truck was trying to turn around in the parking lot when it got hung up on a large decorative rock.

Andalusia Fire Chief Gary Bower says the driver apparently rocked the truck back and forth to try to free it, and ended up ripping the fuel tank off the vehicle.

"Probably spilled 20 gallons of diesel fuel. And dropped the fuel tank itself. It was laying here and he took off and left. So I guess they're looking for him now."

The chief says the truck probably didn't get very far from the scene since it lost so much fuel.

He says its important to clean diesel spills up quickly because of potential environmental risks.
