West Branch Daycare Worker Accused Of Having Child Porn

Posted: Updated:

A man from West Branch, Iowa who worked at a daycare is behind bars, accused of being caught with thousands of child pornography images and videos. 22-year-old Brady Verlo is facing six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after authorities found pictures and videos of child pornography.

Verlo worked at a daycare center in West Branch and has admitted to having about 400 photos and videos of child pornography on his cell phone, and another thousand on his home computer. Police aren't saying where those photos and videos came from.

Iowa City police and federal investigators made the arrest on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014. Iowa City Police say they seized Verlo's phone and computer and that his confessions line up with what they found. Police say Verlo has also admitted to exchanging the pictures with other people looking for child pornography.

The investigation is still ongoing and Iowa City police say more charges are likely.

As part of his job at the daycare, Verlo did some work within the West Branch School District. The superintendent says Verlo was never employed by the district, but the daycare rented out space from the school.

Verlo has no prior criminal past other than two traffic stops in 2008 and 2011. He's being held in the Johnson County Jail.
