Eagle Numbers Way Up In The QCA

Posted: Updated:

Many of you have sent us pictures and noticed there are a lot of eagles flying around the QCA. We caught up with officials who are taking a weekly bird count.

"This year has been one of the highest years we've seen in a long time with the counts," said Samantha Heilig, a natural resources specialist. "The number of eagles that are along the upper portion of the Mississippi River this year at the locks and dams has ranged everywhere from maybe just a few eagles all the way up. We had numbers almost as high as 1,200 at a single lock and dam."

She says they do the count to document eagle numbers but also, so they can recommend the best spots in our area for eagle watching.
