Sherrard Teachers Declare Impasse; Talks Continue

Posted: Updated:

The union representing teachers in the Sherrard School District has filed a notice of an impasse with the State of Illinois, while moving forward with contract negotiations.

According to Sherrard School Board President Leslie Anderson, both sides met Jan. 21 for a fourth session with a federal mediator. Anderson says both the district and the Sherrard Education Association have filed their final offers, but she believes progress was made at the last meeting and the school board is hopeful a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached.

Speaking for the teachers, Robert Wilson says the SEA declared an impasse on Jan. 13, but will continue to work toward a fair resolution when the two sides meet again on Jan. 29.
