Officials Urge Caution On Icy Bridges & Roads

Posted: Updated:

Officials across the QCA are urging motorists to use caution Tuesday morning, January 28, 2014.

The below zero temperatures and icy condition have made for treacherous conditions on area roads, especially elevated stretches like bridges.

Before 8:00 a.m. there were accidents that had stopped traffic in both directions on the I-74 bridge and the Centennial Bridge in the Quad Cities.

At 7:00 a.m., temperatures in the Quad Cities were around -12 degrees.

Officials say when temperatures drop to those levels, salt is ineffective to melt snow and ice.

Temperatures will be above zero later today, which will allow crews to treat problem roadways.
