People in Moline will get the chance on Thursday night to give input and ask questions about the future of Ericsson Elementary School.

An informational meeting starts at the school at 6 p.m. and is open to the community.

The district is exploring the idea of turning this school into a community center. And after Thursday night, more ideas could surface.

One proposal that's been made by board member Ben McAdams is to not move forward with this plan at all and keep the school open.

McAdams told us earlier this week he has concerns closing the school is not what's best for the community.

But the district says improving academics was a major factor in its decision to close both Ericsson and Garfield Elementary Schools - not just cost savings.

Most students from the school are expected to attend Hamilton Elementary after the closings, which Moline's superintendent, Dr. David Moyer, would be one of the best schools in the state after it gets a $17 million upgrade.
