Fire At Rock Falls Business

Posted: Updated:

Fire erupted at the IFH building at 3300 E. Rock Falls Rd. Thursday. Just after noon, firefighters were alerted of the fire through an automatic alarm system. When crews arrived, they found black smoke and flames coming from the roof.

Fire officials say the fire originated in an air handling system at the plant. The fire also spread into the chimney and onto the roof. Crews put the fire out and remained on the scene for about an hour and a half.

Sections of the plant resumed operations but fire officials say the welding division will probably be down for a while.

The fire was caused by some sort of buildup in the air handling system or in the filters. No one was hurt.
