Vote To Take Place For Muscatine Police Gas Masks

Posted: Updated:

Muscatine police officers could soon have new gas masks for hazmat situations. The city council is voting on the purchase of the new equipment.

The mayor says this will better protect officers in the line of duty.

"It's been a long time since we've provided that kind of equipment for the police department," mayor DeWayne M. Hopkins said. "We're in the position now to do some training with some surplus equipment. So there is nothing coming out of the budget no tax payer dollars."

That vote is expected to pass unanimously.

City leaders will also vote on taking over control of a one-and-a-half mile section of Highway 92.
