So you'd like it to warm up? Not so fast!
And that's the key! The last thing we need, right now, is a FAST warm-up. We've got plenty of snow here in the QCA. To our north, there is even MORE on the ground. Up to 16 to 24 inches covers the ground in northern Minnesota. Even here in the QCA we have some places with snow depths upwards near 1 foot.
Snow on the ground and rivers covered in ice. In a way, it's an icy powder keg. A fast melt would mean too much run-of, too fast! This would leave regional rivers no other choice than to swell. Also, the breakup of river ice too quick could cause ice jam flooding. And we've certainly seen that become a problem on the Rock in past years!
Already, it looks to be a potentially tough Spring in terms of possible flooding. And even though we probably couldn't find 1 in 5 people who DON'T wish for warmer weather, if they are a long time Quad-Citian then they no doubt know that having to wait for that warm-up is a much better thing that having the warm air show up at the doorstep all at once!
