Job Cuts At Clinton Schools

Posted: Updated:

Falling enrollment is forcing the Clinton Community School District to make job cuts.

The school board voted to cut about a dozen positions in order to reduce a deficit. Superintendent Deb Olson says they had to cut $900,000 due to a decline of 106 students and a subsequent loss in state aid.

The position cuts include a human resources officer, the middle school principal, middle school nurse, six primary teachers and two vacant high school jobs.

Olson says they were able to cut the middle school positions because two schools are being combined into one new school building. But Olson is concerned about the enrollment trend. She says the school district has had declining enrollment the last five out of six years.
