Burlington Police Identify Suspect In Officer Involved Shooting

Posted: Updated:

A police officer in Burlington shot at a man who police say was stealing a car and trying to run the officer over. It happened last night at the Catfish Bend Casino.  Burlington police tell us a tipster called the casino last night to report that someone was breaking into cars in the parking garage of the casino.  Casino agents found 40-year-old David Cross on the property attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle. Police opened fire.
"As they attempted to approach him, he jumped in a vehicle and attempted to flee," Lt. Jeff Klein with Burlington Police said.  "It's our belief that the agent was justified based on the fact that a vehicle can be used as a deadly weapon."

Cross got away untouched, but police later got another citizens tip that the suspect was about a mile a way from the casino sleeping in a parked car.  Police found and arrested cross at six this morning. They later found the getaway car parked on casino property.  Burlington Police say they responded as best as they could.

"The best thing that we can do is continue to train and learn from these examples," Klein said.
