Sherrard Teachers Vote To Accept Contract & Avoid Strike

Posted: Updated:

It's official, there will be no teachers' strike in the Sherrard School District.

The Sherrard Education Association voted Sunday to accept the contract hammered out by the union's and school board's negotiating teams last week.

SEA reps say it now has to be ratified by the school board and they will not discuss the details of the contract until after that vote.

But spokesperson Todd Volkert says they are pleased the impasse is in the past.

"I think it's a big relief for everybody involved because as the process is going on and has gotten more intense and closer to the deadlines, I think that it just raises the emotions and the anticipation for everybody. So now that it's done I think that everybody is going to sleep a lot better."

Last Sunday, February 16, 2014, the SEA and Sherrard School Board spent nearly 11-hours in negotiations before reaching the tentative agreement.
