Destination Stations

Posted: Updated:

They are companions on a journey. Smiling as they travel from station to station at Senior Star at Elmore Place in Davenport.

Ninety four year old Celeste Compton has Alzheimers. She is a resident at Senior Star.

Program Director Jennifer Huette guides Celeste through a number of activity stations in the Memory Care Unit.

Celeste plays a question and answer computer game, designed to stimulate brain activity.

There is a laundry station where Celeste is very exact as she folds towels. Her daughter, Cheri Fahrenkrog, says Destination Stations help to boost her mom's self- esteem.

At the baking station, Celeste makes cupcakes with other residents. It's an opportunity for her to interact with people.

Cheri says her mother is going back in time. At times, she thinks she is eighteen to twenty years old, and believes  she is still on the farm where she grew up.

At a hat station, Celeste sizes up hats, and talks about color, shape, and size.

Cheri says she needs her mom as much as Celeste needs her daughter.

They have a bond. Taking one day at a time, and making it through with love, joy and peace.
