Jon Curtis of Pleasant Valley is obsessed with pottery. It's an interest he developed more than fifty years ago during his senior year in college.
Jon loves to work with his hands, and put his foot down on the potter's wheel.
In his Pleasant Valley home, Curtis has designed a potter's wheel similar to those which were made more than two thousand years ago.
Jon has made thousands of pieces over the years. He says a potter has total control over the process. He makes useful objects that are also beautiful.
Jon started a pottery program when he taught at Davenport Central High School years ago.
One summer he lived in a pottery village in Japan.
His pottery is quite colorful and beautifully shaped. He especially enjoys pieces that flowers can be put in.
Curtis is really smooth. Confident. He does not wear an apron. No mud on his clothes. He is a real pro.
Now, that's quite a spin!
