The Bix 7 is a tradition for area families and world class runners every year. Many runners and walkers challenge themselves on this course. While some are participating for the first time, others say they haven't missed a year on the course or the sidelines. They say it's as much about the race as it is the atmosphere and being a part of something this big."I did the quick Bix last year and this year. The other times I've run or limped the Bix," said Jamie Snyder, who is a Bix 7 participant....More >>

It was a perfect ending! The kind of season that every high school basketball player dreams about.

Twenty years ago, Davenport West had that dream team.

Falcon Coach Dave Wessel guided his team to an undefeated state championship season. West had a 24-0 record, and defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie to win the state crown.

All state guard Tony Brus , along with the Clark Twins, and several other unselfish kids, exemplified teamwork and were extremely well schooled by their saavy coach.

Brus says the team was always so well prepared. The scouting reports were tremendous, and the work ethic of the Falcon players was top notch.

Coach Wessel also wore a green jacket to every game. As long as the Falcons kept winning,  he put on that jacket.

That 93-94 season, West played Cedar Rapids Prairie for the state championship. Brus says he thinks that's the first time he got sick before a game because of nerves.

However, he lit it up, scored 27 points, and West came home champs 60-55.

Dave Wessel's 1971 Falcon team also won a state title. They entered tournament play with a 7-11 record, caught fire, and had a tremendous turnaround. Wessel says it was one of the best turnarounds he ever coached.

The basketballs, banners, pictures and other items which decorate the walls of Wessel's Bettendorf home are reminders of his outstanding coaching career. He reached the four hundred win plateau during his career.

A Hall of Famer, Dave Wessel.
