Fire At Moline Business - Update

Posted: Updated:

A Moline firefighter was injured and the Avenue of the Cities was closed for a brief time Thursday because of a fire.

Smoke could be seen coming from the building that houses the Kirby Vacuum store and Edstrom's carpet store near 34th Street. Employees of one store reported the fire and everyone got out safely.

In a news release, the fire department says it put the fire out in about 25 minutes. Officials determined that a propane space heater being used in the back of the building started the fire. Damage to the building and contents is estimated at $130,000.

Officials say one firefighter was taken to the hospital after suffering a traumatic injury, but it is not considered life-threatening. No other information on the firefighter was released.
