Tout The Trombone

Posted: Updated:

It's sassy and brassy. Some people say this musical instrument does not get enough respect. It is the trombone.

Don Estes is the Founding Father of S.L.I.D.E. That is the Society For The Longevity, Integrity, Devotion And Excellence of the Trombone.

Estes says it is an instrument with attitude and swagger. The human expression is all contained in a trombone.

Estes has played trombone for fifty five years. He says it is one of the more difficult instruments to play.

Jim Holifield, Chuck Collins, and Terry Lewis are other members of the ensemble. Some people say the trombone is the Rodney Dangerfield of instruments. It does not get enough respect!

Holifield has played the trombone for fifty one years. He thinks many people try to play it, find out it is difficult, and they give up too easily on it.

The ensemble has been together for five years. They practice frequently. They also promote the trombone when they play at public events.

Estes encourages people to play music for their own enjoyment and their own personal enhancement.
