Still Making Merry Music

Posted: Updated:

He is only a few months shy of his one hundredth birthday. Bob Maedge of Clinton still is playing the accordion he bought seventy six years ago for thirty six dollars.

Bob and the accordion are best friends. He started playing the instrument in 1929. The first one he bought cost ten dollars. Bob listened to records and learned to play the music by ear.

IN 1933, Bob played in a three man band called the Happy Aces. Maedge  on accordion, a guitar player, and a drummer. The Happy Aces played at platform and barn dances. Sometimes the group was booked for four dances a week.

Maedge also has a collection of accordions. Most were made in Germany.  They are very ornate.

A man and his accordions. Still making merry music. Much to his delight.
