IL Gambling Expansion Could Be Boon For QC

Posted: Updated:

It's been about 20 years since the Quad City Downs Race Track saw live horse racing, but Illinois lawmakers will talk about a bill that could change that.
For three years, lawmakers have discussed a gambling expansion bill. It would allow slot machines at racetracks and require a certain number of live horse races there.
The president of the Illinois Harness Horsemen's Association used to work at the Quad City Downs and says in his opinion, there's about a 50-50 chance of the legislation passing this year. It could bring back live racing to the Quad City Downs in East Moline and would potentially mean an economic boom for the Quad Cities.

Legislators estimate the bill would bring in at least an extra $400-million in state revenue.
