Bettendorf city leaders will decide whether or not to take the next step toward building a huge sports complex.

On Tuesday night, city leaders will decide whether to apply for $62 million in state financing to help construct the Spencer Creek Sports Complex.

In addition to the sports facility, Bettendorf wants a hotel, business park, and shopping center built in the Spencer Creek area.

The city looks to take advantage of a new Iowa economic development program to do that.

Steve VanDyke, Bettendorf Economic Development Director, says the program will redirect a portion of the state's share of hotel and sales taxes to reinvestment in new developments.

"The state wants to grow. It wants to have the right kind of jobs. It wants to have quality development occur within its borders."

The entire project is expected to cost nearly 200 million dollars to build.
