The weather has been so cold and snowy that the annual Slush Pit Splash event at the local ski area has been postponed! Snowstar in Andalusia, Ill. has rescheduled the event to March 16, 2014.

Usually by March, warmer temperatures turn the snow base into slush, but not this year. General Manager Ed Meyer says they have never had this much snow base heading into the first weekend of March. Right now they still have 3 to 7 feet of snow. Meyer adds they also had the most powder-like snow in any season. And while the extreme cold was a challenge, Meyer says Snowstar is on the verge of its best year ever.

There is no date yet for when Snowstar will close for the season. Meyer says last year, they remained open until March 30.
