History brought to life in a Rock Island classroom.

Marie Tschopp is a professional storyteller, and herfavorite topic is Laura Ingalls Wilder. Wilder is the author who wrote thepopular Little House books. Little House on the Prairie was made into aTelevision Series.

In those books, Wilder shared what life was like as apioneer family back in the 1800's.

Marie Tschopp portrayed Laura during a recent visit toLongfellow Elementary School in Rock Island. She talked to the students aboutwhat life must have been like way back when.

There were plenty of chores to be done. The Ingalls familymoved frequently when Laura was a young girl. The family twisted hay and put itin the stove because there was not enough wood to heat the home.

Much of Marie's presentation is based on Laura's own wordsor letters. She does plenty of research  and has been sharing Laura'sstory for more than twenty years.

Marie says Laura's message is timeless. She tells studentsto have courage when things go wrong and work hard to achieve goals.

Marie says if she can share these stories, and the students can take something back with them, then that's great. It's more thanentertainment. It is inspiration.
