More Living in Davenport's Downtown

Posted: Updated:

On Monday, a plan for 68 new apartment units was announced.

They will be created at the Union Arcade in Davenport's downtown.

But this is nothing new.

The new units are part of the 350 created in the downtown area since 2008.

And city leaders and developers don't expect this trend to slow down any time soon.

"The reason these developers are doing this is a shortage of rental units in downtown Davenport," explains Mayor Bill Gluba. "They're filling a need."

Something private developer Rodney Blackwell, agrees with.

"We'll start renting the top floors 5-6 months into construction," he says. "If it's anything like Wells Fargo, we're still under construction and they're all gone."

According to economic leaders in Davenport, there is another $200M of investment planned for downtown Davenport over the next 5 years.
