Ferris Wheel Installation Begins at Modern Woodmen Park

Posted: Updated:

If all goes well Tuesday, the four legs of the new Ferris wheel at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport should be up by the end of the day, said a crew of workers at the park Tuesday morning.

The workers arrived on site around 6:30 a.m., ready to bring in a crane and start work on the 110-foot Ferris wheel. They completed the groundwork Monday and expect to take Tuesday through Thursday to install the legs of the wheel and hang the spokes.

When the Ferris wheel is complete, it should stand at about 110 feet tall.

Park officials also have plans to add other attractions to the ballpark.

In a press release, a spokesperson for the Quad Cities River Bandits said, "The Ferris wheel will highlight an amusement lineup to include a carousel, a new ride called a "Drop and Twist," an expanded 300-foot long zip line, an auto-belay rock climbing wall, and many other new games and attractions planned for Modern Woodmen Park."

Park officials say they expect the ride will draw in visitors from all over the area.

The grand opening for the Ferris wheel is set for May 2.
