Do you enjoy writing letters? For many people, it has becomea lost art. Not for Trish Wendt of Bettendorf!

Forty seven years ago, as a school project, Trish beganwriting to a pen pal in South Australia. Her name is Shauna Gejas.

The two were young girls at the time. Now, both are married, have children, and are approaching sixty years of age.

Over the years they have exchanged hundreds of letters.Pictures of their children. Sent each other gifts.

However, they had never met until last October.

Trish's daughter was getting married in North Carolina, andShauna decided to attend the wedding.

They met at the Charlotte Airport, and Trish says the twoclicked immediately. After forty seven years, pen pals finally meeting inperson.

Shauna attended the wedding and returned to Bettendorf withthe Wendts. She spent about two weeks in the United States, fell in love withBettendorf, and also got the opportunity to go to Chicago.

The two women say they are likesisters. They share so much in common.

They continue to write. Shauna sent Trish a Christmas Card, expressing her thanks., saying she had the time of her life in the UnitedStates.

A lifelong friendship thanks to the power of pen and paper!
