It's been 33-years since Central DeWitt's last, and only, Boys State Basketball Championship. And the Sabers were looking to make it two title trophies tonight. Jeff Frick's Sabers facing Dubuque Wahlert Catholic in the Class 3A final.

And it was 'raining threes' early for the Sabers, Kyle Bauer buries a 3-ball for a 10-6 lead. The Golden Eagles go to their 6-7 sophomore, Cordell Pimsl, 3-pt play. But Bauer, who threw in 32 on Tuesday, was firing long-range again. He had 17. Then Christian Wright joins the 3-point party, a dozen treys in first half for DeWitt. And McClain Steffens also throws in a 3-ball, Sabers up 4 at half.

Third quarter, Golden Eagles start spreading their wings from the wing. Tyler Potts spots up for 3. Wahlert goes up 10. 4th qtr, Kyle Bauer and Marty Green combine for the breakaway, but Cordell Pimsl was too much inside, 23-pts and 10-boards, as the Golden Eagles size and speed wore down the Sabers in the 2nd half.

And Wahlert wins the 3A state championship 67-57. The Sabers accept their 2nd place state trophy, capping an outstanding season.
