A Galesburg, Illinois, theater company has spent years jumping from venue to venue for its productions. This year, the Prairie Players will finally have a renovated place to call home. The city is helping with the costs, but because winter weather pushed back construction, city leaders must vote on a redevelopment extension. Alderman Ken Goad says it's likely to be approved at city hall tomorrow set to begin at 6:30 PM. No one opposed when the agreement was proposed in 2010.

He says he, other city leaders, and many in the community tend to strongly support the arts.

"The Prairie Players and arts are very important to Galesburg," he said.

Prairie Players has performed at local schools and even other theaters. They've owned their own space in the past, but say it was falling apart. Now, they're moving into a warehouse downtown. Renovations could cost more than $165,500. The city has agreed to pitch in $71,000, or, almost half.

"And they've raised a lot of money on their own to do a lot of the renovations that need to be done," Alderman Goad said. "I'm pleased that we have TIF money in our funds to be able to help out businesses and groups to further their presence in the community."
