The Rock Island community is invited to remember a young man who collapsed and died during gym class last week.

According to family members, 17-year-old Donavin Keim was in P.E. class and had just finished up a wrestling match when he collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where they found bleeding on the brain. Donavin was transferred to a hospital in Peoria, where he later died.

A vigil service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wed., March 19, 2014 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Rock Island followed by a visitation from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, also at the funeral home.

According to family member Nate Harrison, Donavin was an organ donor, providing seven organs to young people waiting for the gift of life.

Harrison says a memorial fund has been set up through I.H. Mississippi Valley Credit Union with plans to establish a scholarship to be given to a football player or wrestler in Donavin's name.
