Midwest March Madness Update

Posted: Updated:

The Iowa Hawkeye were one of the last teams to get into the NCAA tournament...but unfortunately.. they were one of the first to exit...dropping a tough 78-65 overtime decision to Tennessee last night at the First Four in Dayton. The Hawks had a 12-point lead in the first half.. but the Volunteers pounded the boards in the second half and took control of the game. Adam Woodbury had a career high 14-points for Iowa...but Devyn Marble was held to just 8-points and struggled offensively all night. Iowa finishes its season at 20-13...and says goodbye to seniors marble..Zach McCabe and Melsahn Basabe.

Meanwhile...Illinois opened the NIT just the opposite... trailing by 17-points in the first half at Boston University...before Rayvonte Rice keyed a tremendous 2nd half rally with 28-points...and the Illini down the Terriers 66-62...to advance to the 2nd round at Clemson...with the date and time to be announced.

The NCAA Wrestling championships begin their 3-day run in Oklahoma City today..with Iowa sending all 10 wrestlers to the mats in hopes of dethroning Penn State as national champions.
