The Great Copier

Posted: Updated:

Don Barry of Bettendorf calls himself a "great copier". Although Barry's art is not original, it is very detailed and symbolic.

"I feel really blessed to have such a nice shop," Barry said.

Working with what looks like a giant sewing machine and patterns, Don Barry is a scroll saw artist.

"The angles and everything else is what make the piece I guess," Barry said. "A lot of tools I use I actually make myself."

Tools in the grip of an accomplished craftsman.

"This one here is actually a butterfly basket. if you look inside there you can actually see a butterfly in there," Barry said.

When you take a look around the shop you see that God has a deep meaning in his life. That meaning is reflected in the praying hands, face of Christ, a celtic cross and the other pieces of religious art which he has made.

"It is my responsibility to use that talent for his glory. Absolutely," Barry said.

Don is also especially proud of this box which his great grandfather made years ago. It was a wedding gift and a beautiful piece of art. Barry's work also has a lighter side.

Some items simple are and others more thought provoking. The best of both worlds.
