Health Care Law: Deadline To Have Insurance Is Mar. 31

Posted: Updated:

If you don't have health insurance, time is running out. The Deadline to sign-up for insurance as required by the Affordable Health Care Act is Mar. 31, 2014. Anyone who does have insurance through their employer, the government or on their own will face a penalty.

There is a variety of reasons why some people haven't signed up yet. Some have had problems using the HealthCare.gov website. Others don't understand terminology used by insurers, like premiums, deductibles and co-pays.

If you have questions about the program, we have answers. A government-trained expert will walk you through the health care law on KWQC-TV6 news at 5. Some of the frequently asked questions include how to sign up and how to avoid problems. For example, Genesis Navigator Jennifer Busch says for best results, use HealthCare.gov on mornings, evenings and weekends. The middle of the day is the busiest time for the site, which can sometimes mean slowdowns or waiting times.

If you already have insurance, as long as it meets the 10 minimum essential health benefits you don't need to enroll, but if you are uninsured and miss the deadline, you may have to pay a fee as well as pay for your health care.

UnityPoint-Trinity also has trained consultants to help you enroll.
