There's a new website that's a one stop shop for Iowa renters and property managers. Tuesday night officials with the state were in Davenport encouraging area landlords to get involved.

www.iowahousingsearch.org is meant to be another tool for landlords. It's free to use and has had about 30,000 listings throughout the state posted so far. It's especially supposed to benefit potential tenants.

"They can search as specifically as they need to search in an area they want to search and it's very important these listings are timely and current," said Dave Jamison, Executive Director of the Iowa Finance Authority.

The site is funded without using taxpayer dollars through IFA. In 2012, the agency completed a housing study across Iowa and found the drive to home ownership is not as robust as it was in the past and that there was a gap in connecting renters with available units.

"You got more people probably looking to rent first, maybe wait and decide whether they want to buy or not," added Jamison.

There's also a toll-free call center that routinely checks information about vacancies and properties up for rent. That service combined with the site aims to help attract people to available places to live in Iowa.

"You got somebody moving here from Sioux City or Des Moines or whatever. They can get on the site and punch in the city they're going to and see what's out there and what's available," said Walter Skovronski, President of Landlords of Davenport.

Illinois has a similar rental housing website. www.illinoishousingsearch.org
