Multiple Vehicle Accident On Illinois I-280, Westbound Lanes Closed

Posted: Updated:

Travelers on I-280 near Airport Road near Milan, Ill. are in for delays on Monday morning, March 31, 2014.

A multiple vehicle accident happened around 6:45 a.m. at mile marker 14 and has completely shut down the westbound lanes.

Officials say westbound traffic is being rerouted off of the Interstate while the scene is being attended to.

Officials say there were only minor injuries in crash and one person was taken to the hospital.

The Illinois State Police say the accident happened when one semi traveling westbound lost power and attempted to pull off onto the right shoulder of the road.

Due to the location, the semi wasn't able to get all of the way off the road and was struck by a second semi.

Police say a third semi then struck the first two and completely blocked the interstate.

The accident remains under investigation.

Officials now hope to have the interstate open by 9:30 a.m.
