MillionTrees Project

Posted: Updated:

Living Lands and Waters is getting help from some local students for their million trees project this year. More than one-thousand volunteers helped the group wrap trees.

Those trees will then go to nine states along the Mississippi and Missouri River.

The project is important to help the environment along the area's riverfront.

"We're replanting the oaks. We're providing food and shelter for wildlife, we're helping to prevent soil erosion and runoff," MillionTrees Project Coordinator Ashley Stover said. "We're creating more oxygen and decreasing carbon dioxide."

Living Lands and Water has been wrapping and sending trees to other communities since 2007.
