Staff Cuts At Louisa-Muscatine Schools

The Louisa-Muscatine Community School District has decided to make cuts in both supplies and staff to save money.

Superintendent Mike Van Sickle says the district is seeing a decline in enrollment and its reserve fund is running out.

The superintendent says the district has approved cutting about a half dozen positions that include a secondary teacher in language arts, a secondary math teacher and a secondary science teacher. Also, an administrator position will be eliminated.

In addition, there will a 10-percent budget reduction for teaching materials and office supplies.

Van sickle says with the cuts, the district expects to save $ 444,000.
