Traffic Stop Leads To Backup On I-80 Near Tipton, Iowa

Posted: Updated:

What should have been a routine traffic stop turned into much more Sunday afternoon, backing up traffic for miles on Interstate 80 and sending a truck driver to the hospital.

It happened just before 3:00 p.m. near the Tipton, Iowa exit.

Iowa State Police say officers pulled the trucker over for driving erratically.

They say he was not cooperative, not only blocking the roadway, but  forcing officers to call for backup and threaten to use tasers.

Police say a medical issue ultimately had them air-lifting the man to Iowa City.

Officers tell us charges are pending.
