Galesburg Fire Department Busy At Two Overnight Fires

Posted: Updated:

The Galesburg Fire Department was busy on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2014, putting out flames at two different locations.

The first fire broke out at a home on 472 South Academy Street near Knox College, just after 12:00 midnight.

Firefighters found the home fully engulfed by flames.

It took Galesburg firefighters about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames.

Galesburg Battalion Chief Chip Timmons says the building is a total loss.

There were no occupants in the home, and no injuries reported.

At the second location, officials say the fire broke out just after 3:00 a.m. and involved two separate vacant buildings on East Main Street.

The addresses are 140 and 148 East Main Street.

When fire crews arrived, there was smoke coming out of windows and flames shooting from the roof.

The vacant buildings are between two businesses, on either side of each building.

Galesburg, Abingdon and Knoxville Fire Departments responded to the fire.

Officials say there is smoke damage to the businesses on either side of the affected buildings.

There were no injuries, but Blossoms Flower Shop will be closed today due to the fire.
